Alexandria, VA is a port city and lies directly across from Washington DC. Located in Fairfax County, Alexandria was named after the family of Captain Philip Alexander II(1704–1753), a large estate owner and was established in 1749. Alexandria is one of the largest cities in Northern Virginia. Other than Old Towne Alexandria, perhaps, its greatest landmark is Mount Vernon, the home of our country’s first president, George Washington. George Washington happens to be a close relative to my wife, Josephine Washington Saunders. To visit George and Martha’s home the most scenic route to take is George Washington Memorial Parkway which amazingly was designed for recreational driving. While Alexandria is a very beautiful and a historic city and is extremely convenient to Washington, DC, it is so large it has five Metrorail Subway Stations: Braddock Rd, King St-Old Town, Eisenhower Ave, Huntington, and Van Dorn St. There are so many things to do and see in Alexandria that it is one of the most popular cities for local Washingtonians also to visit and to call home. All Alexandria properties fall into one of two jurisdictions, the City of Alexandria or Fairfax County. The Alexandria properties located outside of the City of Alexandria jurisdiction are located in Fairfax County. The City of Alexandria jurisdiction properties are technically located in both jurisdictions being also located within Fairfax County. From the Potomac River cruises: Spirit of Washington, Potomac and Tidewaters River Cruise, to world class country clubs: Belle Haven Country Club, Mount Vernon Country Club superb restaurants: Restaurant Eve, Chart House, Vermilion, Columbia Firehouse, Theismann’s, King Street Blues, Bilbo Baggins, The Fish Market, Union Street Public House, Ben & Jerry’s, to world class shopping, to great schools: Thomas A Edison High School, West Potomac High School, T.C.
